Guest Post: Clever Weather by Jaren Hailey

For those of you who love living and love a clever turn of phrase, have I got the friend for you.

This is a preview poem from Jaren Hailey’s upcoming book of poetry–it should be published this fall. Her previous book, Northern Neck Virginia and Other Profound Spaces, is available from http://www.thewriteplace.biz/bookplace

I had the privilege of doing the cover and interior design for the Northern Neck book and in the process gained a new friend.

Hope you enjoy her poetry as much as I do. Kathie

CLEVER WEATHER  by Jaren Hailey

Lightning strikes and

then the thunder

follows after.

Thrown asunder

     plans for walking . . .

Helter skelter

      drops of rain . . .

I run

for shelter.

Keeps on pelting!

Think I’m melting

in this heat!

More folk

come swelt’ring

to this place of cover!

Weather

hov’ring people

packed together!

Sun comes creeping.

People peeping

     out the can. . .

then sardines leaping

to their separate

streams of living.

I alone am

left there breathing.

I alone am

left there thinking.

I alone am

left there drinking

drops of

nectared thoughts.

“The weather

clevered folks a while

together!”
