The GLORY of GOD
How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son. Ephesians 1:3-6, The Message
Have you ever read your Bible using the practice of Lectio Divina, where you read the passage three times, each time asking God to reveal His word for you today?
Doodling the Bible is very similar. You read the passage. Then read it again (in a different translation if you prefer). As you take in God’s words you ask for a picture or a phrase that He has for you today. Then you sketch it out. It can be stick figures, a pencil sketch, or a photo. The level of artistic skill is not important.
When you read the Bible this way, you take God’s words into yourself. Then you express them through your filter in a way that shows you what the message was for you today. (Tomorrow it might be different.) You can use the sketch to remember God’s words or to aid in explaining them to someone else. I often find myself sketching them on a napkin as I tell someone else what I learned when we meet up for coffee.
If you are looking for a new way of digging into the Bible, give this a try.
