The Lord demands accurate scales and balances;
he sets the standards for fairness. Proverbs 16:11 (NLT
Have you ever encountered a great sale: “Family size bag for only $10.00.”
However, when you add up what it costs for pound, you figure out that 2 smaller bags, equaling the same poundage, is actually $.75 cheaper?
How about 3-year expensive warranties on a product that normally has a 4-year life span?
What about drafting a bill which benefits your constituents, but you sneak a subclause in that profits only you and your cronies?
What about a bait and switch? Breaking a contract? Not paying your taxes? Never picking up the tab?
Here is what Jonathan Cahn says in “The Book of Mysteries.”
“Altered weights not only concern corrupt merchants . . . but civilizations. When A civilization redefines its values, when it changes the meanings and definitions of reality away from God and away from the created order, when it alters the measures of morality, of right and wrong, to conform them to its will and desires, it is dealing in altered weights, false measures . . . deceptive balances. It is turning the objective into the subjective, and man into God.”
As with so many of our sins, we may only only take a micro-step away from God’s in the beginning, but it changes the trajectory dramatically over time. As individuals. As families. As churches. As businesses. As cities and states. And as countries.
What sorrow for those who say
that evil is good and good is evil,
that dark is light and light is dark,
that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. Isaiah 5:20 (NLT)
Lord, help us today to conform our will to Your truth and our ways to Your ways. Move us out of the shadows created by our desires, and bring us into Your Light. Guide us into fairness with accurate scales and balances. Amen
