We are not the light—we are light reflectors. We couldn’t possibly provide light on our own—that’s a task no imperfect human could ever do. We can’t earn our way into “light-dom.”
In order to reflect the light, we must ask for God to fill us with His light. He is the source of all, and He is faithful to respond.
Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Psalm 43:3
So, how and where do we find out more about how to live as God’s-Light-Reflectors?
The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130
We read God’s words, talk and listen to Him in prayer, and worship and praise Him both alone and in community, in order maintain a strong relationship with God. His light fills us, and it shines out of our thoughts, words, and deeds. His light guides us through the darkness of this world.
We can’t earn it. God, by His grace, gifts us with His light. What a relief that I don’t have to try to be perfect, because I can’t be. What I can do is accept His forgiveness as I confess my sins; I can accept His light into the closed rooms in my soul that I have been keeping sealed off. I can ask, “WWJD (What would Jesus do?)” and follow the path He lights up for me.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:18
God never changes, but when I invite Him in, I am transformed over time as I live in His light. He loves me, protects me, and provides for me. There is no place I can go that He isn’t there before me.
So, what is my purpose in this life—to REFLECT GOD so that he shines on all those I come in contact with.
