QUESTION?
Why do I doodle the Bible as I read it?
It makes me slow down, take in what I read, and try to have it come back out through my filter today. Because God talks to me about my story as I read the Bible. And if you want to know if you really understand it, explain it to a 6-year-old or draw a picture.
“The word of God is alive and active. It is sharper than any sword that has two edges. It cuts deep enough to separate soul from spirit. It can separate bones from joints. It judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, NIV)
I’m not looking to make great art—good thing. 🙂 What I am trying to do is spend some time with God, digesting what He has to say to me. What does this look like in my life?
Today, we will start in Philippians. I drew these a few years ago, yet I remember each picture and why I drew it. The doodles also help me to place the text, at least to the book it is in.
It is time-consuming. Some weeks, I may draw only one or two verses. Some weeks I spend days on one picture, not perfecting it, but making sure it is full of what I heard from God.
Try it. You just might like it. Let God’s word come alive in you and out through your fingers.
