Few things focus your thoughts like the serious illness of a child. This is something I had more experience with than I would have preferred when I was raising my children. I am reliving many of those days through the hospitalization of a two-month-old grandson.
What is important? The here and now.

Beeping IV pumps, the whir of oxygen flowing through tubes, the flashing monitors that you can’t help watching … the face of your baby, the feel of his skin, the rhythm of his breathing, how much he eats and wets and opens his eyes … This is where you are. This is your world. This is your focus.
