Author Kathryn Daugherty Tells Her Story
Since publishing my women’s contemporary novel A Case of Hearts in the fall of 2013, the places I have gone are amazing. I’ve had so many experiences in talking to groups at libraries, community centers, women’s meetings, and conferences. I’ve attended many vendor shows. I’ve enjoyed meeting many readers and writers on this journey.
Publishing this novel has been a dream come true. A Case of Hearts cover was the winner in the reader’s choice contest sponsored by the Houston Bay RWA group. It also was a finalist in the Midwest Independent Publishers Association Midwest Book contest.
Seeing this dream develop has led me to writing my second novel. It is also a women’s contemporary story titled She Promised Her Heart. This book was released in October of this year. This story is the beginning of a three-book series, which will be both fun to write and discuss.
My short stories (Published in the Writers’ Journal and the Secret Attic) have received honors at the Montezuma Writers Conference.
Despite not having the opportunity to go to college, I am incredibly grateful to my father for encouraging me to learn how to type. My father always said that my typing skills would serve me well. Since I have worked in a variety of roles throughout the years, I am appreciative of my father’s advice. Typing skills have not only proven to be useful in many of my previous occupations, it has also allowed me to pursue my passion for writing.
I live in a home along the Des Moines River, here at Pella, with my husband, Cliff. We have a blended family of five grown children and several grandchildren. Jessie, our seventy-five pound German wirehair pointer who believes he’s a lap dog, rules the house.
