We find ourselves a very polarized society in 2020–that’s just a nice way of saying that if we disagree with someone about their beliefs or politics, we call them names and question their integrity and intelligence. These verses made it clear to me that this is not a new issue, but one that has been going on ever since humankind was kicked out of the Garden of Eden.
Here’s my information chart of Romans 1:21-23.
DON’T ACKNOWLEDGE GOD | GOD | IDOLS |
---|---|---|
no excuse to not know God who is revealed in creation | glorious | people’s foolish ideas of what God is like |
know God, but refuse to acknowedge His godship, worship, or give thanks | ever-living | made to look like people, birds, animals, or reptiles |
make their own gods the way they want them, patterned on created beings | creator | |
dark & confused minds, futile thinking | ||
claimed to be wise, were fools; thought they knew it all, but were illiterate about life |
Once again, I felt challenged by God to look inward:
I have known God–been in a relationship with Him–my entire lifetime and still I don’t always walk in fellowship with Him. Lord, show me the ways that I don’t treat you like God. Is there a part of me that doesn’t worship you or wants you to be more like my own personal vending machine than God? Shine your light in all the dark crevices of my heart; let me see the dark corners I am holding on to so that I can offer my whole self to you.
