God established a covenant with His people and sealed it with a sign. Our God is intent on keeping His covenant.
Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.” Genesis 9:16 (NLT)
As a young reader of fantasy, I made a connection in my mind with the mythical pot of gold hidden at the end of the rainbow and God’s promises. Adventurers were always chasing after leprechauns’ treasure. It became an obsession that drove them for the rest of their lives, because if they found the gold, they would be set for life.
Now, each time I see a rainbow, I am reminded of God’s promises which I visualize as my pot of gold, as my obsession. The great adventure of my life is to seek after God and His Kingdom, and I’ve found the gold! Now, I’m not only set for life here on earth, but for eternity to come. You can be, too.
God gave us a rainbow as a sign of His covenant with us. It’s visible; it’s real. Even those who haven’t yet committed to God can see it in the sky and be awed by its beauty. God made promises to us that He will keep–for eternity.
