Only a boy named David, Only a rippling brook,
Only a boy named David, But 5 little stones he took,
Only a boy named David, Only a little sling,
Only a boy named David, but he could pray and sing…
You’re probably thinking, “Of course, I know the story of David and Goliath. I learned it in Sunday School. I even remember the little ditty we used to sing.”
I’d like to invite you to move past the child’s version and revisit the story. Why? Because God’s word said it was written to teach us, and to give us hope.
Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.
Romans 15:4 (NLT)
Yes, it is a simple story about faith and courage of a young boy, but there’s more there. You’ve grown up—your understanding of the story can grow up as well.
Here’s today’s invitation. First watch the video below, and then re-read 1 Samuel 17.
