Painter Emphasizes Color and Shape
Andrea Van Wyk has been a Visual Arts instructor in Pella Public Schools and Central College since 1984. She received her Masters in Art Education from Iowa State University and is a member of the Iowa Watercolor Society and the Des Moines Paint Pushers Club.
Andrea has has done several drawings, etchings, and paintings of storefronts and buildings in Pella. She also has painted murals in the basement of First Reformed Church, the Long Term Care Unit at Pella Regional Health Center, and Monarch’s in Pella, the Grinnell Veterinary Clinic, and the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton.
Recently Andrea has begun a body of work depicting scenes from her travels as she continues to study and photograph the architecture, nature and culture wherever she goes. Her current works emphasize color and shape, and bring the forms to life with the use of intensity, contrast and value. These complex organic and geometric compositions are analogies for Andrea’s life as she responds to her memories, current experiences and spiritual convictions.
