What’s your name?

Not the name listed on your birth certificate. I mean:

  • What are the names you give yourself?
…when you mess up, when you’re rejected, when you lose your cool, when you look in the mirror or step on the scale, when you’re lonely, when you’re bored…
  • What are the names you’ve been given by others?
…by bullies, by siblings, by friends, by employers, by employees, by teachers or coaches, by neighborhood kids, by parents or grandparents…
  • What are the names that God has for you?
    Don’t know? Check his book.

This dramatic poem “I Have a New Name” might help you think this through, change your perspective, and help you to claim your real name:
