Standing on the Promises

There are over 7,000 promises that God has made to us in the Bible. The old hymn “Standing on the Promises” by Alan Jackson gives us a picture of the Christian life.

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing.
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises, I cannot fall.
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God

Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

God established a covenant with His people and sealed it with a sign, and our God is intent on keeping His covenant.

Then God said, “When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.”

Genesis 9:16. NLT

God gave us a rainbow as a sign of His covenant with us. It’s visible. It’s real. Even those who haven’t yet committed to God can see it in the sky and be awed by its beauty. As we draw closer and closer to God, as we make a habit of looping through the chain reaction of praise, we pursue a faith that is transformative and authentic.
