Humidifier: Hidden Reveals

As soon as the heat goes on, the humidifier reappears
Releasing soothing moisture into dry air,
Protection from winter ravages,
Invisible power in the night of my bedroom.

I can’t see it in the dark, but I know it is present
By its soothing effect on my eyes, throat, and lungs,
Living water in the air
That soaks in through my skin.

I can’t see it in the dark, but I know it is present,
And if I need reassurance, I draw closer
To put my hands and face into its gentle stream
And feel its calming presence in the dark of the darkest night.

In the morning, even the grayest tones of winter light
Glisten off of the vapor as it rises and spreads
Healing moisture into the very air I breathe.
I draw it deep into my lungs and hold it there, then exhale slowly.

This morning as I slowly evolve from dream to awake,
As I see the welcome mist rise up and spread through the whole room,
I take a deep breath, and say, “Welcome, Holy Spirit.
“Like the humidifier’s vapor, I welcome your presence that fills my whole being.”

Now I lay me down to sleep: God’s presence is with me throughout the night;
I pray the Lord my soul to keep: I am never alone for He is always with me;
And if I die before I wake: God has a room prepared for me in His forever home;
I pray the Lord my soul to take: I am His child, now and when I move into the “not yet.”

In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:37-39, NIV
