We Are All Sinners

Think of this ladder as one that leads from earth to heaven.

At the bottom or the ladder, write the names of the worst, most evil persons you can think of.

At the top, write the names of their opposite—the creme de la creme, the best people who have ever lived.

Now find the run that you believe would be yours to stand on.

  • Are there people above you? Below you?
  • Is there anyone on the ladder who is perfect, who could enter heaven on their own record of sinlessness in thought, word, or deed?
  • Most of us know John 3:16. But have you read verse 17? Read about how much God love you and everybody else.
  • Did Jesus die for the sins of everyone on the ladder or just some of them?
  • Why was He willing to do that?
Does the fact that he was willing to take the punishment for everyone’s sins mean that everyone is going to heaven?
If not, what does each individual need to do to benefit from Jesus’ sacrifice?
    (Hint: Read Hebrews 4:14-16)
  • Can those who reside on the bottom rungs of the ladder be saved?
    How can this be?
    (Hint: Read Hebrews 2)
  • Do you associate with any people who occupy the runs below yours on the ladder?
    Why or why not?
  • Did Jesus confine his interactions to those on the upper half of the ladder only?
    Why or why nont?
  • Who attends your church?
Who would you like to see in your church?
Do those who, in your opinion, have residence on the lower rungs of the ladder have the right to attend your church with you?
  • Are forgiveness and salvation a “once-and-done” date that you can put on a timeline? Or, is there something that comes after that?
    (Hint: Read Hebrews 5:12-14)
