Be a Lighthouse

Lighthouse 001What do you want to be?
I want to be a Lighthouse!

Okay, not literally, but that’s the purpose of my life.

What is a lighthouse without a light? It is the lamp of the lighthouse that defines its very purpose for being. The light  radiates in all directions out for others to see—a warning of danger, a guide to safety. A lighthouse’s purpose is to send a strong message, visible and ready to guide all who seek it to safe harbors.

What I want my thoughts, words, and actions to radiate is not my own light—that narcissistic glow would be puny indeed. My Master—my light source—is the Creator God of heaven and earth. He tells me in the Bible:

“I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from…the place of your slavery. You must not have any other god but me.” ~Exodus 20:2-3 (NLT)

He declares me to be his child:

“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” ~John 1:12 (NLT)

If He is my God,  Father, and Master—and I truly believe He is—then He is my purpose for being. He provides the light of my life, and my purpose is to shine it out for others to see.

Lord, make me your lighthouse.
