WWJD

Remember this acronym?

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

People wore jewelry and t-shirts with these initials; they were printed on posters and book marks and repeated so that these letters developed a permanent residence in the front of your brain. WWJD is a mantra to help you live your life in such a way that it reflects your Savior.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12, NIV

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. John 5:14, NIV

THINKING IT THROUGH

  • How could this thought transform how we live: what we think, what we say, and what we do?
  • What does this question have to do with Jesus and His words in John 8:12?
  • What does my face reflect?
    • Makes faces in a mirror: sad and mad, bad and glad. Frown, now smile. Yell, now whisper.
  • When I speak, do I bring light or darkness? Try speaking some words as you said them earlier today or this week. Listen to yourself and ask:
    • Does my tone of voice reflect His light or a sputtering candle? Or does it snuff out the candlelight?
    • Do my words encourage the light of life or create shadows?
  • Is my attitude reflected in what I do or do my actions reveal that I have asked myself “WWJD” before I reacted?

God created each of us with unique talents and gifts which include how we hear His voice and how we express it. Picture this: bring His words into our beings and bringing them back through our filters in pictures and words, drawn or photographed, written or graphed, doodled or perfected, painted and formed in clay, carved or spray-painted on a wall.

  • What picture do you see in your head as you read these texts, ask WWJD, and think about how you reflect Jesus’ light? Sketch, doodle, paint, or get out your camera.
  • Maybe you prefer word pictures or poetry. Ponder and print.
  • Maybe you want to remind yourself to ask the question: WWJD. Find a way to do so.

Take Jesus’ words into yourself. Picture yourself putting them into action, writing, painting, or singing them to make them hold more weight inside you. Now, let His light shine through you.
