Have you ever been labeled a “loser” by people or things outside of your control? Or do you ever wonder, “Why am I so down-hearted this morning?” You are not alone. King David, the “man after God’ own heart” asked that question of himself many times throughout his life.
Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours? My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be… Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? ~Psalm 5:3-5 (NLT)
For you are God, my only safe haven. Why have you tossed me aside? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies? ~Psalm 43: 2 (NLT)
One of the enemy’s most powerful weapons against you is discouragement. If he can get you to believe even one little lie, he can render you ineffective in the Kingdom. Perhaps he whispers to us you as you sleep. Perhaps he incites another to hurl hurtful words or uses one of the thousands of outside stimuli you are exposed to in advertising and peripheral images every day of your life. However you come to believe or experience a label, you end up weighed down with emotional negativity, living under a curse that you may not even be entirely aware of or be able to name.
If this is where you are, what can you do? Instead of waiting for God to provide relief from your circumstance, consider whether or not he may be waiting for you to take the first step as Ruth did (Ruth 2:3) and get to work.
Pray together, including praying blessings over whoever may be the source of the curse you’re living under. God, the author of healing, will draw you to himself through your friends’ loving treatment of you, just as He did with Ruth through Naomi.
What if this there are no Love-in-Gloves* relationships in your life? Remember, you are never alone or unloved.
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.” No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us… And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~Romans 8:35-39 (NLT)
